Reading and writing in comfort: two things I didn't know I needed (and one was an absolute bargain)

Hey, how's it going? Check out what I've got for you this week.

Two things to make reading and writing more comfortable. The kind you don't know you need until you have them — and then you simply can't imagine life without them.

First up: the reading cushion stand

Mine is the one in the photo — a triangular cushion in soft fabric, in this lovely blue-green colour. I bought it on Amazon a while back, can't even remember where I first saw it, but it's been one of those quietly brilliant purchases that earns its keep every single day.

I use it for my e-reader and for physical books — especially the chunky ones, which are the ones that really do a number on your wrists. Getting to a certain age and all that. You pop it on your lap, rest whatever you're reading on it, and that's it. No juggling. No dead arms. No impossible positions.

This week I showed it to two friends who were visiting. They ended up using it for their Nintendo Switch. Which technically also works, fair enough. They were absolutely sold on it.

There are models to suit every taste and budget. If you want to have a look, I'll leave my Google search link here. Or you can search yourself:

→ In Spanish: cojín soporte tablet
→ In English: tablet pillow stand
→ In German: Tablet Kissenstütze

Second: the laptop cushion (the second-hand shop bargain)

This one was more of a happy accident. And cheaper.

For years I'd thought those laptop cushions were a load of tosh. More clutter, for what? A normal cushion does the job perfectly well, thank you very much.
Well, I was wrong.

I spotted it in a second-hand shop — which I absolutely love, by the way, because you never know what you're going to find. It's like going on safari. I picked it up, turned it over a few times, and put it back down. "I don't really need it", I told myself.

Got home. Went out to the terrace to write with the laptop on my lap. Very idyllic in theory, except I was desperately uncomfortable with my little sofa cushion, and the laptop was sliding all over the place and threatening to end up on the floor.

So I went back to the shop, and there it still was. And on top of everything: five euros. Five.

The one in the photos is mine — I'll admit it's seen better days, but it works an absolute treat. I use it to write on the sofa and, above all, on the terrace, on those perfectly ordinary summer garden chairs. The laptop stays put, it doesn't crush your legs, you've got a flat surface to work on... and it gives you that lovely feeling that summer is finally on its way. Which, frankly, we need.

There are also plenty of new ones at all price points, obviously, if you'd rather not rely on the second-hand safari. Same as before,, I'll leave my Google search here,or you can look it up yourself:

→ In Spanish: bandeja portátil cojín
→ In English: laptop lap desk cushion
→ In German: Laptop Kissen Tablett

Neither of these is some fancy, expensive gadget. They're just a couple of simple little things that make reading and writing so much more comfortable, so much more enjoyable, and therefore so much more frequent. Which is rather the point.

What about you? Do you have anything special for reading or writing? Some people swear by candles, incense... I'm rather fond of those myself, but that is another story and shall be told another time. 😊

Tell me in the comments.
